Volkswagen’s updated Polo hatch is due to bow in 2009, a car that may eventually spawn a new cabrio version as well as an MPV. This rendering, compiled with information from an inside source gives a good indication as to what the final car may look and shows that the same basic shape of the current car will carry over for the new model.
New to the model family will be hybrid drivetrains, as revealed previously by CEO Martin Winterkorn, but prior to the release of the hybrid car will be new BlueMotion diesel versions as well as a possible performance version with VW’s outstanding super-turbocharged 1.4L TSI engine.
Due to the low cost of the Polo, the hybrid system is likely to a mild version that utilizes regenerative braking and electronically controlled components in similar fashion to BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology.
The next-gen polo is also expected to benefit from VW’s recently announced cheaper version of DSG and, when combined with the efficient BlueMotion diesel, could deliver a mileage figure in excess of 60mpg.
